One of the biggest challenges for the modern Hispanic-American woman is trying to balance work and home life. There just aren't enough hours in the day to do everything you want to do. As a working mom, you want to advance your career without sacrificing your family. Here are three tips that will help you get the delicate work-life balance right.
1. Identify your priorities. Some things are more important than others. Whether you're at work or at home, try to focus on the things that truly matter, instead of sweating the small stuff. Everyone's priorities are different. What matters most to you may not be the same thing as what matters to your friends. Is doing the dishes as important as reading to your kids? If not, consider leaving the dishes until tomorrow. If it helps, write down your list of priorities, from biggest to smallest. The next time you find yourself stressing over something minor, take a look at the list and try to remember on what truly matters.
2. Learn to manage your time better. This is easier said than done. Some people are naturally disorganized. Others tend to procrastinate until the last possible minute. Breaking these habits will make it easier to juggle your work and home schedules. If you can't do it on your own, team up with a friend who's in a similar situation. You can share your time-management tips and ideas.
3. Learn to say no. Many people have a hard time saying no to their boss or to family members, but sometimes you have to. You're a human being, not a superhero. No one can do it all. Taking on too much work is stressful and may hurt other aspects of your life. It's better to say no upfront than to wait until you're drowning.
