
In the 34 years since it was established, the Hispanic Scholarship Fund (HSF) has awarded over $250 million in scholarships to 90,000 students. If you’re worried about how you’ll pay for college, check out their scholarship programs to get free college money.
There are several different Latino scholarships that you can apply for via the HSF website (www.hsf.net [1]). For example, the Gates Millennium Scholars scholarship is funded by the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. It offers grants for Hispanic American students with a minimum grade point average of 3.3. To qualify, you will have to demonstrate a leadership skills and significant financial need. You can apply directly at www.gmsp.org [2]. The deadline is January 11, 2010.
The HSF/ General College Scholarships program offers up to $5,000 for graduating high school seniors, undergraduates and graduate students of Hispanic heritage. To apply, you must have a minimum 3.0 GPA and be enrolled (or planning to enroll) in a full-time degree-seeking program.
The HSF Procter & Gamble scholarship offers up to $2,500 for Latino undergraduates pursuing degrees in science, technology, mathematics or engineering. To apply, you must have a GPA of 3.0 and reside in Chicago, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, New York, Miami, Ohio, North Carolina, Texas or the Los Angeles metropolitan area.
The HSF General Motors Scholarship Program assists Hispanic students studying business, human resources or engineering. To qualify, you must apply for federal financial aid by completing the FAFSA [3]. You must also have a GPA of 3.0 and be enrolled in a full-time degree-seeking program.
To apply for any of the HSF scholarships, you must be a U.S. citizens or legal permanent residents with a valid permanent resident card or a passport stamped I-551 at the time of application.
